This week , as the advertised end of the current General Assembly approached the April 29, 2025 deadline, our state representatives and state senators finalized their work and headed for home.  This work included the next two year budget for the state of Indiana at $44B.

The good news for all retired teachers is that IRTA has informed us that our request for a “ 13th check “ as described in House Bill 1221 was approved for 2025 at a 5% reduction figure.  This is significant in light of the recent revenue shortage predicted to be in the area of $2B causing across the board budget cuts  and limitations . IRTA was able to achieve this without any damage to the General Fund !!

Laura Penman, Ex. Director for IRTA, has suggested that a note to each of our representatives and senators to thank them for their support .  Any pension enhancement means something to each of us in helping to keep up with increases in the cost of living.  Contact information for them appears below.
