   When the General Assembly meets in January, 2024 they will be starting a “short session” which by law must end by March 14, 2024. This type of session usually does not deal with budget issues since that was all decided last Spring for the next two years. Never the less, as of Organization Day on November 21, 2023 IRTRA plans to press for a pension enhancement in 2024 anyway.

As we go forward it is important for us to know that the three Senators that each represent a part of Elkhart County have very important roles regarding the needs of retired teachers related to their pensions. Any bill that IRTA proposes on this topic has to pass through the Pension & Labor Committee first. Sen. Rogers( S11 ) chairs this committee and Sen. Doriot (S12) is a ranking member. After that action the bill would move on to the Appropriations Committee and Sen. Mishler (S9) chairs this committee. Contact information for them appears below.
